VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Falling behind 0-2 to Shanley wasn’t enough to shake The Hi-Liners confidence in their last regular season home game Friday night. Valley City fought back to win 23-25, 22-25, 25-15, 26-24 and 15-12. The 2 point victory gives them a 14-4 conference record and guarantees The Hi-Liners no lower than a 3 seed in The Eastern Dakota Conference Tournament.

The comeback started in the 3rd set, VCHS raced out to a 14-6 advantage. The Deacons got no closer than 6 in their 25-15 loss. Seniors Mackenzie Pederson and Kacee White felt the turn around started with their defense

 

Valley City got a scare in the 4th set, they opened the set scoring 9 straight and were up 13-1 when Shanley started to chip away at the lead. The Hi-Liners keep in front but Shanley would eventually tie it at 24. Lindsey Noeske got a block that gave a side out to set up Valley City’s winning point.

The 5th was close early on. After the 8th and final tie, 11-11, Valley City went on a 4-1 scoring run with Macy Olstad getting the match point.

Its a quick turn around with Valley City playing Saturday at Davies, The Hi-Liners and Eagles are currently ties for 2nd place. Tuesday they play their last game of the season at Devils Lake. The EDC Tournament begins a week from Tuesday, Pederson and White know keeping momentum is important

 

Cali Halgrimson led the offense with 16 kills, she added 13 digs and a block. Macy Olstad scored 15 kills with 16 digs. Josie Berntson had 8 kills and 2 blocks. Reagan Ingstad added 7 kills, she also had 43 assist and 24 digs.

Kacee White had a team 28 digs, Lexi Ondracek had 13. Mackenzie Pederson led the team with 3 blocks, Lindsey Noeske collected 2.

The Hi-Liners combined for 10 aces. Ingstad led the way with 5, Halgrimson and White had 2 and Olstad and Ondracek 1.

Valley City’s match at Davies starts at 3:30 Saturday in Fargo.
