N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–Carrington edged MPB in a battle of top ten ranked teams 49-45. The eighth rated Cardinals avenged there lone loss of the year, a 49-44 OT victory by the Thunder in the semifinals of the Stutsman County tournament. MPB, ranked number six coming into the game had just 1 loss, that to fourth rated EKM. The Cardinals held a 15-14 lead after the opening quarter and outscored the Thunder 21-13 in the second quarter and led 36-27 at halftime. Emerson Hoornaert scored 14 of her game high 16 points (6 0f 6 from the free throw line) in the first half to aid the Carrington win. Hoornaert also added 3 steals. Jill Endres added 10 points and a team high 7 rebounds for the Cards. Addison Hoornaert added 9 points and McKenzie Johnson finished with 7 points. Carrington also got a big boost off the bench from Marah Schmitz scoring 5 points in the second quarter. The Cards connected on 14 of 19 free throws, and the Thunder went 4 of 11 from the line.

MPB’s leading scorers were Amanda Allen and Megan Moser with 11 points each. Lauren Moser added 8 points and a game high 8 rebounds. Allen connected on three 3-pointers and Megan Moser added 3 steals. The Thunder dropped to 6-2 overall and Carrington improved to 6-1. The Cardinals will travel to Fort Totten on Thursday night to play Four Winds and the game will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com  Pregame will start around 7:00 P.M.
