WEST FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- It was two hard fought battles Thursday night in West Fargo. The Hi-Liners came up short in a pair of EDC losses, the boys fell 79-61 while the girls were edged 72-67. Both teams play again next Thursday in Jamestown for a non conference doubleheader with The Blue Jays.

West Fargo 79 vs. Valley City 61
Valley City hung with the No.3 ranked Packers for the first half. Trailing 6-0 The Hi-Liners raced back to tie the game at 8 with 10:35 left in the half. West Fargo would lead by no more than 6 . A 3 by Matt Lyter pulled Valley City within a point 23-22, that’s the closest they’d get the rest of the night. The Hi-Liners went into the half down 36-30.
In the second half Valley City scored 4 straight and trailed 36-34 when The Packers responded with a 14-1 run and would pushed their lead into the 20s leading by as much as 25.
West Fargo out rebounded The Hi-Liners 53 to 31. Valley City shot 42% from the field and collected 7 -3 pointers. Hunter Burchill scored a team high 18 for The Hi-Liners, he also was their lead rebounder with 9. Riley Miller had 15 points and 8 rebounds. Avery Bennefeld come off the bench to score 11.
Joe Pistorius from West Fargo paced all scorers with 26 points, he added 9 boards and 7 assist. Luke Lennon had a double double of 10 points and 15 rebounds.
GBB: West Fargo 72 vs. Valley City 67
Valley City started off slow and found themselves behind 11-0 to open the game. Down 16-4 they roared back with a 14-0 run topped of by a 4 point play from Josie Berntson and led 18-16 with 8:30 remaining in the opening half. West Fargo went back on top behind 11 points from Lauren Diemert and were up 37-32 at halftime.
The Hi-Liners were plagued by another slow start in the second half and trailed by 12. With 8 minutes left they cut their deficit to a point and kept it within a possession entering the final minute. West Fargo went 4 for 6 from the free throw line down the stretch to hang on for the win.
Taryn Dieterle scored a game high 25 for The Hi-Liners, she also had 7 rebounds and 3 assist. Jadyn Dieterle scored 13 and Courtney Lloyd 10.
West Fargo set a new school record with 13 3 point baskets. Diemert had 7 from long range and ended the night with 23 points. McKenna Becher and Grace Faiman both scored 13.
