CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City commission took a few steps to approve the Central Avenue Urban Grant project known as Streetscape during their January 2nd meeting.
After several public input meetings the commission voted to approved widening both sides of the downtown city sidewalks by 36 inches and they also approved of constructing bump outs from 2nd street to 5th street along Central Avenue with the upcoming reconstruction project.
Downtown business owner George Dutton made one last plea to the city for a proposal to have diagonal parking on one side of the street.
Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kaye Vinje believes the city needs to educate the public about downtown parking.
According to KLJ engineer Chad Petersen said once the city decided to approve the plan to widen the sidewalks by 36 inches on both sides of the street the diagonal parking option was no long feasible. The following is a portion of the audio from the Valley City commission meeting discussing this agenda item on January 2.
The city commission approved of the downtown reconstruction project on a 4 to none vote. City Commissioner Duane Magnuson was not at last night’s regular city commission meeting.
