N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- LaMoure-Litchville/Marion fended off a strong second half performance from Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier to get a big District 5 Girls’ Basketball win 56-52 Thursday night in LaMoure.

The first half belonged to The Loboes. They had 7 3’s, with 5 coming from Anna Holen, and in the second quarter were up by as much as 12 points. After 2 periods they led 35-27. Coach Mitch Carlson credits his team’s speed on offense for the quick start.

 

Early second half turnovers helped EKM begin their comeback. They trimmed their deficit to 41-39 heading in to the final 8 minutes. Early in the 4th The Rebels tied the game at 41 and a field goal by Kaitlyn Schiele gave them the lead 43-41. LLM was able to get back on top 46-45 with 5:41 to play and would run their lead to 8.

EKM made one last push, Tallie Hanson’s 4th 3 pointer of the night with 10.5 left in the game cut it to 54-52, but late free throws by Olivia Bliss and Kindra Hamlin helped secure the win.

LLM was narrowly outscore by The Rebels 25-21 in the second half, coach Carlson says EKM began to find open shooters

 

Anna Holen finished the game as the lead scorer with 25 points and 6 3’s, Ellie Holen scored 13 and Kindra Hamlin and Jackie Meiklejohn 6. EKM produced 3 in double figures, Tallie Hanson paced The Rebels with 17, Katie Entzi added 13 and Taylor Mathern 12. Mathern and Hanson both hit 4 3 pointers.

LLM improves to 13-1, Saturday they play North Star at home. EKM, who’s record is now 12-2, plays Linton/HMB next Tuesday at Linton.
