JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The annual Father/Daughter/Grandfather dance is heading into its 7th year as a fundraiser for cancer research.

As one of the more highly attended fundraisers in Jamestown, the dance has raised thousands of dollars for the Stutsman County Relay for Life. Organizer Mayda Mueller says the event first started after Marilyn Teckenburg told her about a similar event.

Now, the event is sponsored by St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Carlla Maki says they are glad to help put on the prom-like fundraiser, which is for more than just fathers and grandfathers with their daughters.

The event has since moved to the high school to accommodate the large turnout of couples the event has gotten. Last year, there were 391 that participated in the dance, which raised over $5,000 in luminary sales and dance participation.

All money raised goes to Relay for Life.

Mueller says Teckenburg has also been donating her time making over 200 handmade corsages for the couples who join the dance. She says they will also have luminaries for sale at the event. Spectators will also have a chance to watch a grand march beforehand for a $1 charge.

The dance kicks off April 6th from 6 to 9 PM at the Jamestown High School. The cost for admission is $20 for couples and is $25 at the door. For those with more than one partner, there will be a $5 additional charge. Tickets can be purchased before hand at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or Neighborhood Grocery and Gas.
