VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Saturday, April 28, Express wrestler Koye Grebel won the 90 lbs schoolboy division (12-13 yrs old) in Freestyle by beating Connor Manske of Fargo Tech Team by techniqual fall (14-4).
The victory, which was preceded by a championship in the Greco tournament on Friday night and a Folkstyle championship in March earned Grebel the coveted “Triple Crown” of North Dakota USA wrestling.
Koye, a 7th grader, bumped up a weight class from March to take on Manske who had won a Triple crown last season. Grebel defeated Manske (8-1) in Friday night’s Greco championship. As many may recall Koye gave up 20+ pounds during the regular Hi-Liner Varsity season, wrestling 106lbs.
After winning the ND State Folkstyle championships in March, both Ryer Muske 105 lbs intermediate (8-9 yrs old) and Koltyn Grebel 74 lbs Novice (10-11 yrs old) won ND State Greco tournaments on Friday night but fell short on Saturday of triple crowns. Fourth-grader Muske placed 2nd and fifth grader Grebel placed fourth.
After placing fourth in folk style in March, 97 lb schoolboy Ethan Miller won ND State championships in both Greco and Freestyle in very dominating fashion. Also winning both styles on the weekend was Jaden Oestern who pinned his way through the 285 lb Junior divisions (16-17 yrs).
The final 2 champions for Express Wrestling of VC were Parker Larson who won a championship in the 160 lb Junior division in Freestyle and Jake Tangen, 195 lbs Junior division who followed up a second place finish in Greco with a championship in Freestyle.
Other participants representing Express Wrestling of VC over the weekend included : Chase Coghlan 3rd in Greco and 3rd in Freestyle, Carter Coghlan 4th in Greco and 3rd in Freestyle, Kallen Hansen 4th in Greco and 6th in Freestyle, Will Schwehr 2nd in both Greco and Freestyle and Gabby Hannig who placed 2nd in Freestyle girls division.
Express is coached by Tim Miller, Aaron Larson, Doug Muske, TJ Hanson, Ryan Coghlan, Matt Maresh, York Grebel and Mark Miller.
