CASSELTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The Oakes and Central Cass High baseball teams split their doubleheader Thursday, with the Squirrels winning game one, and the Tornadoes claiming victory in the second contest.
Game One: Central Cass 3 Oakes 2
Oakes scored the first run courtesy of an RBI single by Taylor Schall in the top of the first inning, with Central Cass tying the game in the third with an RBI single from Devyn Donley.
In the sixth, the Squirrels managed to plate two across off a pair of hits against Schall to take the lead. The Tornadoes responded in the seventh with a run, but Schall was stranded at second base after reaching on a double to end the game.
Brady Robinson went six innings, allowing just two hits while striking out eight to earn the win. Schall was the tough luck loser, lasting six innings with six strikeouts.
Game Two: Oakes 8 Central Cass 1
Oakes’ offense came alive in the second game, with five runs scored in the first inning on two hits, one of them a two-out three RBI double from Izaiah Hoelscher, which chased starter Justin Meehl out of the game after the inning concluded.
Brady McKenna earned his second victory of the season, going five innings with five strikeouts. Tyler Voightman was three for four with a double, two singles and two runs scored.
