FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Minot figured out a way to keep Valley City off the scoreboard Thursday in the opening round of The Class A State Tournament. The west’s 4th seed edged the east’s top seed 4-3 to end The Hi-Liner’s hopes of a state championship.

Valley City struck first in the bottom of the 3rd with a 3 run home run by Becca Thompson, her 6th over the last 4 games. Minot got a run back in the 2nd and took the lead in the 3rd, Cambrie Pretzler brought home the go ahead run with a ground out.

Both starting pitchers settled in the rest of the game, Thompson retired a streak of 11 straight from the 3rd through 7th innings and Marisa Andrysiak did not allow a hit again until the 7th. Thompson surrendered 6 hits with 3 strike outs and 2 walks. Andrysiak struck out 6 allowing 6 hits.

Grace Scherr, Mackenzie Pederson, Eliza Schueneman and Eliza Johnson also had hits for The Hi-Liners, Kacee White was walked twice and scored a run.
