VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After serving as the Barnes County State’s Attorney, Carl Martineck will be leaving the office at the end of the year to become the next City Attorney for Valley City.

Martineck didn’t give a specific reason, but he said this opportunity will allow him and his family to remain in Valley City.

The city commission unanimously approved of Martineck to become the next city attorney and HR director during their regular meeting on June 19th.

Meanwhile, City Attorney Lilie Schoenack will pursue a different direction after she received enough votes during the primary election on June 12th to get on the November 6th ballot. She served two years as the Assistant Barnes County State’s Attorney before accepting the position with the city. If Schoenack is elected in November she’ll begin serving as the next Barnes County State’s Attorney in 2019.
