LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The LaMoure Post 19 American Legion baseball team will be heading north to Langdon next week to compete in the State Class B tournament after clinching a spot Thursday night in the Southeast Regional tournament. The other spot will be claimed by either Oakes Post 36 or Kidder County Post 231.

In loser-out play, Ellendale Post 137 send the top seeded Railcats of Enderlin Post 221 home with a stunning 7-4 victory, propelled by home runs from Dakota King and Clayton Grueneich. Cole Goering threw six innings and two thirds innings, and struck out seven to earn the win.

In the second loser-out contest of the day, Post 36 defeated Hankinson-Fairmount-Lidgerwood 6-5 in eight innings. Oakes took a five run lead into the bottom of the seventh before H-F-L rallied to force an extra inning. Coy Awender’s RBI single scoring Garrett Meehl proved to be the difference in the end.

Post 19 punched a state ticket holding down Post 231 5-3 behind a dominating performance on the mound from Jace Hanson; going six innings and striking out 12.

In the final game, Oakes blasted past Ellendale 16-2 in five innings. Post 36 batted around for five runs in the first inning and never looked back, with Mike McKenna striking out six in the victory.

Saturday’s play starts at 5 p.m. with a State Tournament qualifying game featuring Oakes and Kidder County, to be followed at 7:30 with the Regional Championship round with the winner meeting LaMoure. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM The Tornado, Q101.1 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 4:45 p.m.
