HILLSBORO, N.D.  (NewsDakota.com) After New Rockford lost their first game on Tuesday to Harwood, they went on a 3-0 tear, beating three teams by a combined 27 runs. But their season came to end on Friday night as they fall to the number one seeded Hillsboro/Central Valley Blue Sox 9-3. NR ends their season at 17-11. HCV moves into the championship on Saturday against Carrington at 1pm.  Hillsboro also punches their ticket to the State B Legion Baseball Tourney for the first time since 1986, first time ever as a co-op.

New Rockford 11 Harwood 1, 5 innings, 10-run rule (elimination game)

Sophomore Colter Soderholm pitched a complete game for the Black Sox and picked up the victory on the mound.  Tucker Longnecker hit a walk-off RBI single to win the game in the bottom of the fifth inning for Post 30. Bryan Bailly suffered the loss.  Harwood ends their season at 10-10.

Hillsboro/CV 9 New Rockford 3 (elimination game)

Post 30 was down 2-0 heading into the top of the third inning, but would scored three runs to take the lead. HCV scored one run in the home half of the third inning to tie, and then scored two more in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the eight inning and one more in the sixth. In the bottom of the fifth, second basemen Patrick Limke hit a two-run home run as well.  HCV had a total of 17 hits. For NR, Seth Soderholm was 2-for-2 with two singles, Tucker Longnecker was 2-for-3 with an RBI single.  Teddy Allmaras suffered the loss on the mound, working five innings and was relieved by Seth Soderholm in the sixth inning when he reached his 105 maximum pitch limit. Colton Anderson picked up the victory on the mound working all seven innings.

Saturday’s schedule:

1pm – No. 2 Carrington vs. No. 1 Hillsboro/CV (championship)

3:30pm – repeat championship game if Carrington loses

Game one and if necessary game two can be heard on AM 1600 KDAK the Cardinal and newsdakota.com starting about 12:45pm pregame.

Regardless of the outcome, both Carrington and HCV qualify for the State B Legion Tourney in Langdon starting August 1st.
