VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Authorities are awaiting the autopsy results of a Valley City man who passed away six days after he was arrested for a DUI by Valley City police on July 15th.
Barnes County and Valley City officials are responding too.
Barnes County State’s Attorney Carl Martineck said, “Warren Lindvold was brought to the Barnes County Correctional Facility after being medically cleared at CHI Mercy Hospital in Valley City. Later, Mr. Lindvold reported that he did not feel well. He was then transported back to Mercy Hospital, and eventually to a hospital in Fargo.”
Martineck said, “At this time, there is no evidence that Mr. Lindvold suffered any injuries at the jail.” He said the county has not received the autopsy results from the state medical examiner’s office.
According to the obituary, Lindvold died July 21st at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.
Meanwhile, Valley City Attorney Lilie Schoenack issued the following statement about the July 15th incident.
Schoenack said, “On July 15 at approximately 12:41 a.m. VCPD Officer Chris Olson observed Warren Lindvold driving in an impaired manner. At one point the vehicle hit the curb on the east side of 5th Ave SE. Officer Olson stopped the vehicle and after administering field sobriety testing placed Warren under arrest for DUI. Unfortunately, Mr. Lindvold refused to be taken into custody, so Officer Olson and Sergeant Wade Hannig had to assist him to the vehicle. Shortly after, Warren was “medically cleared” by Mercy Hospital and booked into the jail. I have reviewed all of the reports and video associated with this arrest and it is clear that not only is there no wrongdoing on the part of the Valley City Police Department, but our officers handled a difficult situation in a respectful, courteous, and admirable way. Mr. Lindvold did not suffer any injury while in custody of Valley City Police Department.”
