ELLENDALE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As the community of Ellendale continues to recover from major flooding as part of a summer storm continues, others are coming forward to assist.

Dickey County Emergency Manager Charlie Russell reports that a fund has been established by the North Dakota Volunteers Organization Active in Disasters (VOAD) to help residents who have sustained major damages.

The news comes after residents of the community were over-encumbered with 8 inches of total rainfall in roughly 7 hours.

“This totally overwhelmed the storm sewers as well as the sanitary sewer system,” Russell stated. “Raw sewage and flood water, in some cases 3 to 4 feet, filled multiple basements in homes and two of our major churches.”

The Ellendale Flood Relief Fund was created by the North Dakota Community Foundation (NDCF) to help individuals and business affected by the storms. Right now, they’re accepting donations that will all go to disaster response.

“Funds will be granted to the Lutheran Social Services Unmet Needs Committee, which provides direct assistance to individuals and is providing case management services to victims of the storm.”

Individuals and businesses that would like to donate to the fund can donate online or mail a check made out to “North Dakota Community Foundation” with “Ellendale Flood Relief Fund” in the memo line to:
