LISBON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The last time Lisbon walked off a football field a winner was October 7th 2016. Maple Valley/Enderlin was on the other end of the a 25-6 Bronco win at Sandager Park.

Friday night the Broncos walked off the field winners for the first time in 12 games and again Maple Valley/Enderlin was on the other sidelines. The Broncos ended the streak with a 46-24 win at their new digs at the Ransom County Fair Grounds.

The offense was centered around three runners. Jordan Sours, Hunter Schultz and Caeden Sweet. Combined the three rushed for 441 on 53 carries. Sophomore Sours led the way with 196 yards on 22 carries and four touchdowns. Sweet, another sophomore, added 126 yards on 8 carries and freshman quarterback Schultz chipped in 119 yards on 23 tries and two scores. Bronco head coach Joe Gerding said running the ball was going to be key for the them to win.

 

 

Sours got the scoring going on the opening drive when he capped off a 68 yard drive with a one yard run. The two-point conversion failed and the Broncos led 6-0 three minutes into the game.

On their ensuing drive, a bad snap to Sours fell to the ground in the end zone where he had to fall on it to take the safety.

Maple Valley/Enderlin capitalized on a short field after the free kick as Grady Karges snuck in from a yard out. The two-point conversion failed giving the Falcons a 8-6 lead the 5:31 to go in the first quarter.

Lisbon would score the next 32 points thanks to the three headed rushing monster. Sours scored his second touchdown on another one yard plunge with 6:43 to go in the half. He added the two-point conversion to give the Broncos a 14-8 lead, which they carried into halftime.

In the third quarter, Schultz and Sours would each tally a touchdown. Schultz on a one yard run midway through the third. Then Sours broke free on a 41 yard run. They would each add a two point conversion on the others score to make it 30-8 heading to the final 12 minutes.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Schultz scored his second touchdown on a 14 yard run. Sours added another two-point conversion to make it 38-8 with 11:45 to go in the game.

But Maple Valley/Enderlin would not go quietly. Chance Bye would hit Cam Yantis with a short pass on the next possession. Yantis ran over tacklers and side stepped most of the Broncos’ defense on a 60 yard touchdown. Garges ran in the conversion to make it 38-16.

Garges ran one in from three yards out and Bye hit Carson Hovelson with the conversion to make it 38-24 with 6 minutes to play.

But the Broncos got some insurance when Sours scored his fourth touchdown of the night on an eight yard run. Schultz’s two-point conversion made the final tally 46-24.

Bye had a great game for the Falcons. He was 15 for 26 for 233 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He also led the Falcons with 35 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Bronco coach Gerding knew Bye was going to be tough.

 

 

Yantis had four receptions for 100 yards and the one score for Maple Valley/Enderlin

The Broncos, now 1-1 on the year, host Hillsboro/Central Valley next week. The Falcons will try and pickup that first win at home against Northern Cass.
