JAMESTOWN, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com)– Viking senior Jared Lentz won his second tournament of the season Monday as he took home the title at the 36-hole University of Jamestown Invitational.

Lentz finished with a 2-over total of 146, carding a 70 on Sunday to build a two-shot lead and then finishing with a 76 on Monday. Lentz held off the competition by one shot, defeating Concordia College’s Matt Kulia and Jamestown’s Austin Rene who both shot 147 to tie for second place.

It is Lentz’s second win of the collegiate season, both of which have come at the Jamestown Country Club. He also won the 18-hole UJ Fall Kickoff there on Aug. 28. Outside of the collegiate golf schedule, Lentz won the 80th Annual Elks Labor Day Match Play Tournament on Sept. 3 – also at the Jamestown Country Club.

VCSU junior Cameron Rall finished this week’s two-day tournament strong with a 74 on Monday as he earned a Top 10 finish. Rall’s total of 151 (7-over) was good for sixth place out of 33 golfers.

The Viking men took third place overall. VCSU shot a 296 on Sunday to build a one-shot lead, but couldn’t keep up on Monday as they turned in a 316 team score. Concordia College won the team race with a two-day total of 600. Jamestown was second at 605 and VCSU took third with a 612. Dakota Wesleyan placed fourth with a 634.

VCSU’s Casey Julson finished 17th with a 158 (73-85); Tanner Schnathorst was 20th with a 159 (76-83); and Taylor Finlayson took 22nd with a 161 (78-83).

The Vikings had five men’s golfers compete unattached including Levi Nix (25th, 166), Collin Hoss (27th, 168), Brady Warcken (29th, 170), Jayden Ewoniuk (32nd, 175) and Dalton Beighley (33rd, 186).

On the women’s side, Valley City State had three golfers compete at the Jamestown Invite. Freshman Jocelyn Braunberger had a strong finish Monday, carding a round of 90 as she tied for 13th overall with a 187 total. Taren Braunberger (95-106, 201) placed 18th and Megan McNamee (98-113, 211) took 22nd at the tournament.

Up next: Valley City State will complete Thursday at the Minnesota-Morris Cougar Invite, which is played at Pomme De Terre Golf Course in Minnesota.
