CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Carrington Mayor Tom Erdmann says Carrington Police Chief Christopher Fabec is not stepping down from his position.

A rumor rose up after the Carrington City Council granted a 30 day leave of absence to Chief Fabec for a family-related incident in Pennsylvania.

“The council approved his leave of absence at our last council meeting,” Mayor Erdmann stated. “There is no truth behind Chief Fabec stepping down.”

Mayor Erdmann says the Carrington Police Department remains fully staffed with four full-time officers.

“Sgt. Nathan Cruz has stepped up in Chief Fabec’s time away for the department. If we need any other assistance, we’ll get some part time help from the Sheriff’s Department,” Erdmann pointed out.

Chief Fabec joined the Carrington Police Department from Pennsylvania in July 2018 when he became the Chief of Police.

“It is an honor to represent the men and women of the Carrington Police Department,” Chief Fabec says on the city website. “The department is exceptional due to the amazing staff that we have working for this great city.”
