VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Carter O’Brien has been coming to the Sheyenne Care Center with his mom Casandra on her days off visiting and hugging the residents on 3rd floor and sharing his contagious joy for some time now.
One day after a visit, he said to his mom “I want to make sure all the residents have a nice Christmas – I want to get them a gift.”
She reminded him that that will cost money and where would he get that. He responded “you can make cookies and I will sell them for the money.” And so it began, mom made 12 dozen cookies and her 7 year-old son was off ( with mom at his side) going door to door selling cookies ( free will offering), telling his story and raising $250.00 for his cause, the seniors on 3rd floor that he loves in less than 2 hours. Many told him, “how nice”, “so sweet” and “thank you for doing this”.
Shortly after his fund raising journey he came with mom and presented the $250.00 to Linda Brobst the 3rd floor Neighborhood Planner and asked her to please make Christmas special for his friends. When asked what he would like the residents to have he thought maybe a nice ornament for each or a pizza party or whatever Linda thinks is best.
Don’t try and tell the staff or residents at Sheyenne Care Center love and kindness is no more. This amazing little boy stands for and has reinforced all that is good in this world and we thank God for this example of the youth that will be charged with caring for all of us some day.
Carter is the son of Cassandra and Tyler O’Brein and is a 1st grader at Jefferson elementary school in Mrs. Altringer’s class. (She told him he was awesome!)

God Bless you Carter and Merry Christmas!
