JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown held their first meeting of 2019 on Monday, January 7th.

Library Director Joe Rector came before the council to give them an update on the ongoing Alfred Dickey Library renovations and preparations for the Centennial Initiative in 2019. Rector informed the council that they had achieved the end of the initiative.

Rector told the City Council that all the renovations and more have been completed ahead of the 100 year celebration of the library, which was built in 1919. He says there still a little work to be done that will be ongoing.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich praised Rector for his work and the entire staff and board of the library for bringing everything up to date for the 100 year celebration.

Later, the resolution to approve and modify the garbage and recycling collection routes was taken off the consent agenda. Councilmember Steve Brubakken asked if all residents have been notified of the intent to move to a 4-day garbage and recycling pickup as well as moving certain alleys to curbside pickup.

Mayor Heinrich said everything will be decided by the City Administrator and staff.

City Administrator Sarah Hellekson said once approved, they will contact all occupants affected with notice of the move and planned date.

The city later discussed an agreement with Interstate Engineering to provide engineering services for the 2019 Water Main Improvement District.

City Engineer Travis Dillman says they will meet to find priorities, saying they have identified some certain areas that will be focused on in 2019. Dillman says there is no shortage of areas that need to be done, but this will identify what will be the priority for this year.
