JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In November 2018, Joe Regnery with New Phase Energy came before the Jamestown Public Works Committee with the request to conduct a feasibility study and see if a project to capture methane gas from wastewater treatment would be economical.

During the city council meeting, the council discussed entering the agreement with New Phase Energy for the feasibility study at a cost not to exceed $22,500 with costs to be paid upon completing the study.

Normally the study costs upwards of $65,000, but Mayor Dwaine Heinrich said New Phase Energy agreed to not charge the full cost unless the city agreed to move ahead with the project of capturing the methane gas based on the study’s findings.

Regnery stated that the study could find out how much the city could make from capturing the natural gas and selling it for money and environmental value.

Regnery says the enormous output of natural gas from the Cavendish Plant makes Jamestown a unique community for this type of study.

If the city decides to move forward with the project following the study, they will then need to pay the rest of the $65,000.
