Grafton, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington Cardinals wrestling team went 2-2 at the Region 2 dual championships in Grafton and finished in fourth place. The Cardinals came into the tournament as the number two seed, but a rash of season ending injuries throughout the season and another out with sickness doomed the Cardinals chances. The Cards were missing returning state champ Kaden Wolsky, Michael Clifton, and Austin Hendrickson, very likely to place at state in their respective weight classes. Adding to the injuries at Grafton, returning state placer Colton Buskness was out due to illness. The Cards rolled in the opening dual over Grafton 53-9. The Cardinals lost in the semifinals to Hillsboro-CV (HCV) 46-33. After a 45-24 victory over Larimore in the loser out round, the Cards fell to Pembina County North (PCN) 49-30 in the third place match.
Central Cass , the top seed coming in, cruised to the title defeating Mayville-Portland-CG 69-0 in the opening round. The Squirrels defeated PCN in the semis 49-25 and defeated HCV 55-21 in the championship match. PCN was able to challenge HCV for the number two spot but came up short, losing 45-34 to the Burros in the challenge match.
Carrington will compete in the Region 2 individual tournament next Saturday in Larimore. Matches will start at 10:00 A.M. and all Cardinal action will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL), FM 100.1, and newsdakota.com
