BORDULAC, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Emergency crews were called out just after 8 AM Saturday, March 2nd to a train derailment in rural Foster County.
Foster County Sheriff Justin Johnson reports that the derailment occurred at 1st Street NE and 70th Avenue NE in Bordulac, roughly 10 minutes south of Carrington.
“No injuries have been reported,” Sheriff Johnson stated. “We’ve called in the Hazmat Team and have the Carrington Fire Department and Jamestown Fire Department on standby. It appears 33 cars have been derailed.”
Sheriff Johnson says the train has mostly cargo, but Hazmat has been called in because around 13 of the cars may contain some ammonia.
“It’s not considered a major derailment, just minor. But we want to make sure the scene is as safe as possible.”
Sheriff Johnson says payloaders are currently clearing the snow around the area, so it’s not accessible by vehicle at this time.
