BISMARCK (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown claimed their first ever West Region tournament championship on Saturday night at the Bismarck Event Center. The Jays stayed unbeaten with a 71-63 win over Mandan.
“We need to get into the gym and get some shots up,” Jacoby Lloyd said after the game on his team not quite their usual self this weekend offensively.
Jamestown built an early eight point lead in the first half only to see Mandan storm back. The Braves went on an 11-0 run to take a 34-31. Mason Walters canned one of his three first half triples infront of the first half buzzer to cut the Mandan lead to 38-37 into halftime.
In the second half, Jamestown took control after trading a few early baskets. Down the stretch, it was Jared Kallenbach and Carson Lamp going 7-8 from the line to put the game away.
The Jays (24-0) will be the No. 1-seed from the West in next week’s state tournament. They will play Wahpeton at 6pm on Thursday evening from Bismarck.
