JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee moved to approve the specifications for seal coat, patching, construction & reconstruction this summer.

Earlier this year, City Engineer Travis Dillman reported that the specified district in the Northeast part of the city would receive around $1.8 million in improvements.

The city will advertise on April 4th, 11th, and 18th for bids, which will be accepted and opened at the next Public Works Committee meeting on April 25th.

Later, the committee heard from Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist regarding approval of matching funds for a main lift station generator grant to be paid from the Sanitary Sewer Utility Fund.

Bergquist says losing power to the lift station would have backed up sewer in people’s basements and be detrimental to the community.

Dillman says the generator would provide a needed backup if the city ever lost power to the main lift station.

The committee approved paying their share of $63,500 for the lift generator.

The committee also heard a garbage collection update from Sanitation Foreman Roger Mayhew. He says the switch to strictly street collection for specific alleys had a rough start.

Mayhew says they continue to work well with Recycle North Dakota. He says the volume has even gone up recently along with recycling.

In other committee news, several new vehicle purchases were approved including a new 4CY, 4 wheel drive loader and new three wheel high dump sweeper for the street department. They also approved purchase of a new tandem axle truck for the water department.
