VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Kindred scored three runs in the first inning and sixth innings on the way to a 6-2 win over Valley City in the first game of the American Legion Baseball doubleheader in Kindred Wednesday night. Valley City took the night cap 9-3.

In game one, Andy Freier’s two-run single capped the first inning and proved to be the game winning hit as Kindred won the game that counts in the region standings.

Valley City would get a run in the fourth on Corey Nelson’s fielder’s choice that scored courtesy runner Austyn Thornton. Mitchell Taylor would scored Connor Drogan with a single in fifth to make it 3-2.

But Kindred would score three times in the bottom of the sixth to pull away. Gavin Keller would have a pinch hit , rbi single in the inning and then scored on Jon Twedt’s single. Nick Eggeman would score on a steal of home.
Eggeman allowed six hits in six innings for the win. He walked one and struck out one and neither of the runs would be earned.

Avery Bennefeld and Briar Harvey had two hits a piece for Post 60. Seven different players had at least one hit for Kindred.

In game two, Valley City scored five runs, all with two outs, in the second inning and cruised to a 9-3 win.
Avery Bennefeld had a bases loaded double that scored three for the big blow in the inning. Mitchel Taylor scored Bennefeld on a single to center and Connor Drogan scored on a wild pitch.

Post 60 would get three more in the third. Corey Nelson drove in two with a single and one scored on an error. Easton Hesch’s rbi triple in the fourth capped the scoring for Valley City.

Mitchell Taylor had three hits to lead Post 60. Easton Hesch pitched three no-hit, shutout innings to get the win. He walked two and struck out seven.

Oakley DuBord had two of the three hits for Kindred.

Valley City is now 4-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the East Division.They travel to Devils Lake for a doubleheader tonight. Game one will be at 5:30, pregame at 5:15 on KOVC AM 1490/96.3 FM and newsdakota.com
