JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The US Army Corps of Engineers is issuing a warning about recreation around area reservoirs this winter.

Due to the increase in water releases in both the Jamestown and Pipestem reservoirs, a thin layer of ice is expected to cover areas around the bodies of water, which may affect those recreating on the reservoirs. With the change in water flows, conditions could change with no warning.

The unseasonably wet weather has caused water releases to be made throughout the winter. When ice forms over the water, the water levels will fluctuate as the void between water and ice can grow and create hazardous conditions.

The Army Corps of Engineers are asking those recreating on the reservoirs to be cautious of potentially hazardous conditions.

A meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, October 29th at 5:30pm at the Jamestown Civic Center to discuss flooding in the area.
