HILLSBORO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It was the Gavin Wright show from the opening kickoff, literally!!! The senior returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, scoring on a receiving touchdown and had three interceptions.

The top ranked Burros shutout fourth ranked Valley City 19-0 in the regular season finale for both teams.

Wright took the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown just 14 seconds into the game. Parker Gallagher’s extra point was wide left and the Burros jumped out to a 6-0 lead. It would stay that way until late second quarter when the Burrow tacked on another score, a one yard run by Oscar Benson. It was his 14th of the season. Gallagher’s extra point made it 13-0 at the break.

Again the defenses dominated the second half. The lone score came with 1:09 to go in the third quarter. Quarterback Micah Gallagher pitched the ball to wide receiver Carson Henningsgard as if they were running a jet sweep. But Henningsgard pulled up and hit Wright at the goal line who rolled into the end zone. The missed extra point made it 19-0 heading into the 4th quarter.

After a bad snap on a field goal attempt, the Hi-Liners had the ball on their own 40. They would go five plays and march 45 yards, 32 coming on a Max Fehr run on 4th and 10 from the Burro’s 49 yard line, before giving up the ball on Gavin Wright’s third pick of the night at the five yard line. Valley City would not get any further.

Fehr finished with 80 yards on 19 carries. No One else had more than five yards. Sufficool was nine of 18 for 58 yards and three picks.

Benson led the Burros ground game with 53 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. Micah Gallagher was nine for 18 passing for 117 yards.

The Hi-Liners end the season 6-3 overall ad 4-1in the region. They will have the number two seed out of the East Region. They will face Hazen, the number three seed from the West. The Bison beat Turtle Mountain Community High School 40-8. Hillsboro/Central Valley ends the season 9-0 and will face Turtle Mountain CHS.
