JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Residents and visitors will not be allowed on the Jamestown & Pipestem reservoirs this winter once ice forms.

That decision comes from Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser.

Reports shows that ongoing releases from both dams will create dangerous ice conditions and fluctuating water levels as releases continue through the winter.

Kaiser says ice experts report that ice will be very dangerous.

Sheriff Kaiser says once ice forms, they’ll set up barriers at all public access sites. He says the decision to prohibit activities is tough, but it’s for the safety of both the people and emergency services.
