CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 2019 District 5 Volleyball tourney wrapped up on Monday night with three matches in the East Gym in Carrington, here are the results:
Lamoure/Litchville-Marion 3-0 over Barnes County North (25-15, 25-12, 25-12) (Region 3 qualifier)
Senior Ellie Holen led the way with 13 kills to help the Loboes of LLM improve to 30-8 on the year and move on to the Region 3 tourney in Linton that starts Monday, November 11th. The Bison of Barnes County North end their season at 11-17 overall.
Midkota 3-0 over Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier (25-8, 25-16, 25-18) (Region 3 qualifier)
The Mustangs of Midkota make their way to the Region 3 tournament for the first time since moving to District 5 and Region 3 in 2014. The last time the Mustangs made a region tourney was 2012 when they were a part of District 7 and Region 4, they lost to Carrington in the district championship that year. The Mustangs had three players in double figures in kills Monday night, Hunter Petersen had 13, Mariah Topp added 11 and Josie Johnson had 10. Midkota improves to 16-11 overall, EKM ends their season at 3-27 overall.
Oakes 3-2 over Carrington (25-20, 17-25, 25-17, 17-25, 16-14) (championship)
The Cardinals led 12-9 in the fifth and final set, but the Tornadoes had a total of 10 kills in the fifth set to come from behind and win the district championship for the second year in a row over Carrington. Senior Nicole Schmitz had 21 total kills, three in the fifth set, Freshman Emma Muggli had nine kills and Senior Allison Jepson added five kills, three in the fifth set. Sophomore Abigail Cox added four kills, two in the fifth set. Senior Bella Hone of Carrington had 13 kill shots and five stuff blocks. Junior Hannah Hagel added 10. Carrington drops to 32-4 overall, Oakes improves to 32-3 overall.
