JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Behavioral Health Conference will be featuring an internationally known speaker and veteran this week.

Dan Nevins is a professional speaker who has been inspiring audiences around the world for more than a decade.

“A highly decorated soldier, Dan was severely injured during combat in Iraq in 2004 after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated beneath his vehicle,” his bio states. “He lost both legs below the knee, and lives with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the emotional wounds of war.”

Nevins says bouncing back from that tragic event has been life changing.

Today, when he’s asked what he does, he simply responds “I tell stories and I teach yoga.”

Nevins turned to yoga which has “enabled him to heal from the invisible wounds of war in a way that nothing else could.”

This has ultimately led to Nevins’ creating of the “Warrior Spirit Retreat”, a non-profit that empowers warriors and their families to greater possibilities by providing them with new tools for healing from the invisible wounds of war.

Nevins will be bringing his story to the event this week in Bismarck. He says the North Dakota Behavioral Health Conference drew him in because of its goal to help eliminate the stigma surrounding behavioral health.

The Behavioral Health Conference runs today and tomorrow in Bismarck at the Bismarck Event Center.
