VALLEY CITY, N.D. (special to NewsDakota.com) – This past Saturday, February 22, the Valley City High School Speech Team traveled to the Fargo South Bruin Speech Invitational. The Hi-Liners had an extremely successful day in the field of 12 teams taking first place as a team ahead of West Fargo Sheyenne. All in all, the Hi-Liners had event champions in six events. This included many who had won their respective events before and two new event champions. All in all the Hi-Liner Speech team has 21 events qualified for the State Class A Speech Tournament held in Jamestown, April 18th. Individual results are as follows:

Chuck Beckman 48th Annual Memorial Speech Tournament (Walker, MN 2/29):
On Saturday, February 29th the Valley City High School Speech Team traveled to the 48th Annual Chuck Beckman Memorial Tournament held at Walker-Hackinsack-Akeley Schools in Walker, MN. This Tournament was a huge tournament with over 650 entries. It featured some of the better speakers from Northern Minnesota. Valley City only took 6 speakers to this tournament and had a very successful day, placing 12th out of 33 teams at the tournament.

West Fargo Sheyenne Mustang Mane Speech Invitational (2/29):
The students who did not travel to the Walker, MN tournament traveled to West Fargo Sheyenne to compete in the West Fargo Sheyenne Mustang Mane Speech Invitational. The Hi-Liners had a successful day qualifying 1 new event to the ND Class A Speech Tournament in April. This brings the total entries for VCHS to 22 for the State Class A Speech Tournament.
