JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Under Governor Doug Burgum’s “North Dakota Smart Restart” program, many businesses will be allowed to reopen if they comply with a list of guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Businesses including restaurants, bars, distilleries, cosmetology related business, tattoo and body piercing, fitness centers and more will be allowed to reopen in the state on Friday, May 1st.

Central Valley Health Unit Administrator Robin Iszler says a lot of questions have come in regarding restaurants.

Iszler says according to the guidance provided by the state, outlines have been given for employees and customers at restaurants.

She says establishments may look a little different to accommodate the general standards provided by the state.

Other guidelines include not allowing drink refills unless it’s in a clean, unused cup, no self-serve cups, straws, or condiments, and all restaurants closing for a minimum of 4 hours daily to deep clean.

Iszler added that businesses can still choose to maintain their current mode of service.

Iszler says personal responsibility during this is also important. She added that if residents and customers comply, we can all work together to make it through this time.
