JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Austin and Brandon, better known as The Kinzler Brothers, stumbled across some unique treasures while filming for their YouTube channel.
Brandon says their channel started when his brother wanted to use a Go Pro and film themselves riding down Pipestem Creek Trail. From there, they decided to make different videos such as time lapse builds of Foco Brxlz stadiums including The Fargodome and U.S. Bank Stadium, reaction videos, and even giveaways.
After all of this and more, Brandon says they became interested in magnet fishing.
“We came across magnet fishing on YouTube and we were really interested,” he said. “So we bought some magnets and just started magnet fishing in Jamestown.”
This has led the Kinzler Brothers to some interesting treasures.
“Our first day out we found a Trek mountain bike. Then we just got hooked on this new hobby. We just got better from there as far as knowing how to do it. So we have always been people who recycle anything that we can. We recycle all the metal we find by giving it to West End Hide and Fur Metal Company.”
Some of their crazier finds include two guns; an 1863 Remington revolver that has since been restored and recently a Ruger 357 Magnum Blackhawk revolver, which was still loaded.
“[The] cops were notified and they came out and took the gun. We have also found bikes, huge signs, tools like pry bars, hammers, and vise grips. Some other items are a lot of bridge building materials like big pipes and Rebar.”
The brothers use two 1,500 lb pull magnets and a double sided 3,600 lb magnet. They use a grappling hook to fish larger items out of the water. Kinzler added that fishing out the metal makes them feel like they’re making a difference in cleaning up the ecosystem.
Brandon says their magnet fishing has taken them from Jamestown to Valley City, Fargo, and Aberdeen. He says they plan on traveling to other areas and doing more out of state.
