Janice was born on July 24, 1938, the daughter of Walter and Alma (Braunberger) Bauer in McClusky, ND.  She was raised and grew up in McClusky, graduating from high school there in 1956.  She went on to attend Valley City State College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  While attending VCSC, she met the love of her life, Warren L. Syverson. They married on October 19, 1960 at Grace Lutheran Church in McClusky.

Janice and Warren taught in multiple school districts around North Dakota.

They welcomed their first child, James on August 26, 1961.  Their daughter, Sheri was born February 22, 1963.  Their third child, Jon, was born February 4, 1965.

In 1976, she started teaching at Edmore (ND) Public School, dedicating her time to the elementary students.  She retired from there in 1994.  After retiring, the family moved to Valley City, ND.

Janice was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.  Being an avid quilter, she joined several quilting groups.  Janice was a member of the Valley City Eagles Auxiliary and the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.  She enjoyed going to the Barnes County Senior Center where she played cards and had lunch and coffee with friends.

She enjoyed several activities including quilting, needlework, crocheting, puzzles, painting, jewelry making, and reading.  She discovered the Kindle could hold more books than her shelf.  She also loved gardening and had a passion for flowers.

Janice is survived by her three children, James of Goodland, KS, Sheri Lutjens (Glenn Kramlich) of Valley City, and Jon (Karla) of Fingal, ND; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Mai, and Sara Syverson, Eryn and Erika Lutjens, Kristina and Alex Syverson; sister, Jacklyn Pfliger, of Bismarck, ND; sister-in-law, Regina Bauer, of Austin, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.  She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Zoey.
