Lora Workin, 57, passed away on Monday, July 20, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Public visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020, from 10-11a.m. followed by her 11a.m. funeral service at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND – all are welcome to attend. Those who are not able to attend may view the service via live stream on the funeral home website.
On September 20, 1962, Lora was the 5th daughter born to Syl and Betty Schumacher in Linton, ND. In 1984 she graduated from Valley City State with a phy-ed and business double major. Her first teaching job was in Oriska, where she met the love of her life, Lowell Workin. Lowell and Lora were married on June 9, 1990, and moved to the family farm at Walcott where both of their sons, James and Matthew, were born. Her teaching career took her to Barnesville, Wahpeton and Richland.
Lora’s life revolved around her family; they were her everything. As a mom , wife, sister and friend, she had a love that was unconditional and never ending. Her ‘boys’ were her life, whether that was cheering them on at a sporting event, making sure they had monster cookies at harvest or being wherever she was needed. As a sister and aunt, she was the heart and glue of the family. When it was time to gather, she gathered all. When there was a birthday, she celebrated it, with everyone receiving one of her personalized homemade cards. When Lora stepped in any door, it was like sunshine sweeping into the room.
Lora had a contagious laugh and a huge loving heart. She made a difference not only for her family, but for countless young people while in the educational field. Whether she was in the classroom, or at a sporting event with her camera around her neck, students flocked to her. Her camera became a ‘signature’ object at all family/friend weddings and gatherings of any sort. With Aunt Lora, you got in line, she said “shut up and smile”. Done, picture taken!
Lora was proud of so many things in her life. This year, she was proud to say that she had “kicked breast cancer’s butt” for 10 years.
Lora is survived by her loving husband, Lowell, her sons, James and Matthew; her sisters Pam Bryan (Bill), Betty Bruins (Gary), Sheila Hager (John) and Sandy DeVillers (Damon); and her father-in-law Raydon Workin and brother-in-law Leon (Beth) Workin along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her mother and father: Syl and Betty Schumacher, along with her mother-in-law, Betty Workin and brother-in-law, Joel Workin.
Whenever Lora would end a phone conversation or leave a house, she would always say: “Love you bunches”. So, we say to you Lora: “Love you bunches. We will miss you.”
