JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Parents and caregivers are being encouraged to check their child’s car seat and ensure it is installed correctly this week.

September 20th through September 26th is Child Passenger Safety Week, which encourages caregivers to learn about current best practices for child passenger safety.

Shannon Klatt, Director of Health Promotions at Central Valley Health, says data is collected and a majority car seats are being misused or are hooked up incorrectly.

Klatt says to help ensure area caregivers have their seats installed correctly, Central Valley Health has teamed up with the Jamestown Regional Medical Center to hold a free car seat check all day Wednesday.

The car seat checks will be at two locations. The first will be held at the 3-5 Head Start Building along 5th Avenue NE from 11:30 AM to 3 PM and later at the Early Head Start Building along Highway 20 from 3:15 PM to 4:45 PM.

Klatt added that they also have the ability to distribute car seats on a case by case basis.
