SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State men’s basketball team opened Sunday’s game with a 20-5 run and never looked back as they cruised to an 84-51 victory over Mount Marty to close out play at the NAIA Basketball Classic.

Twelve Vikings saw playing time and 11 players scored in the balanced effort Sunday afternoon. Eddie Oyet led the Vikings with 20 points off the bench, going 9-for-10 from the field and 2-for-2 from three-point range. Seniors Connor Entzi scored 15 points while Jalen Addison added 10. Kevin Schramm scored nine points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds Sunday.

Also scoring in the game were Tate Hebrink (7), Cayden Rickard (5), Matthew Schlottman (5), Chris Thompson (4), Hunter Sand (4), Joshua Kelly (3), and Cody Miller (2).

Valley City State improves to 2-1 on the season and Mount Marty falls to 2-2 overall.

Mount Marty was on the board first with a three-pointer from Elijah Pappas but Valley City State then took the next 17 straight points capped by a three-pointer from Oyet to lead 17-3. The Vikings continued to gain throughout the first half, holding their largest lead on a fast break from Addison to hold the 44-18 advantage at halftime.

Mount Marty could not get any closer throughout the second half as Valley City State continued to build on their lead. Holding the 71-42 advantage, Valley City State took an 11-2 run capped by a pair of free throws from Cody Miller to take the largest lead of the game at 82-44. The Vikings led by as much as 38 points again on a basket from Hunter Sand with 1:44 to play en route to the 84-51 win.

Valley City State shot 44 percent from the field (30-68), 25 percent from three-point range (9-36) and 75 percent from the free throw line (15-20). Mount Marty shot just 33 percent from the field (18-55), 24 percent on three-pointers (8-33), and 50 percent on free throws (7-14).

The Vikings also held the rebounding advantage 46-32, including 13 offensive boards. Valley City State tallied 43 bench points, 19 points off turnovers, and nine steals in the game.
