VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Valley City implemented a face mask mandate due to the rising numbers of coronavirus cases in the area.

On Tuesday, December 1st the city commission gave final approval of a mask ordinance. Mayor Dave Carlsrud asked City Attorney Carl Martineck about the one exception.

The Valley City Commission approved the ordinance to mirror Governor Burgum’s executive order. The maximum penalty could include a $1,000 fine for violators. The mask mandate includes business patrons and their employees. The ordinance passed on a four to one vote. Commissioner Jeff Erickson voted against the motion.

City Attorney Carl Martineck said the city and police department could adjust the enforcement procedure depending on the situation.
