VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Three members of the Valley City Gymnastics team were named to the 2021 Class A Gymnastics All-State team announced on Wednesday by the North Dakota High School Coaches Association.

Sophomore Abby Thornton and senior Jocey Kriewald were named first team All-State and sophomore Karina Olson was named second team All-State.

Thornton took third in the All-Around at the State Championships with a 37.267. Thornton took third in the vault, second on the bars, eighth on the beam and 14th on the floor.

At the state meet, Kriewald was fifth in the All-Around. Kriewald was sixth on the vault, fourth on the bars, tenth on the beam and sixth on the floor. Kriewald was one of only four gymnasts that finished in the top ten in all five at state.

Olson finished 11th in the All-Around. She was ninth in the vault, eighth in the bars, 19th on the beam, and 17th on the floor.

Valley City took home second place at the state competition with a 145.750. It was the best finish for the Hi-Liners since 1982.

The All-State Team was voted on by the NDHSCA.

The Outstanding Senior Athlete was Rachel Schiele of Jamestown and Blue Jay Head Coach Dave Tews was named the Coach Of The Year.
