JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NDDOT) – Law enforcement agencies across the state participated in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign from March 1-31, 2021 to reinforce the importance of not driving under the influence. Over the course of the campaign, 151 alcohol or drug-related arrests and citations were issued.

A total of 728 citations were made throughout the enforcement patrols. Of those citations, there were 103 alcohol-related with 73 driving under the influence (DUI) arrests. Alcohol-related charges also include 28 citations for minor in consumption, minor zero tolerance and open container. This enforcement period resulted in 27 drug-related arrests.

Alcohol and drug-related motor vehicle crashes, fatalities and arrests are 100% preventable, and making the choice to always drive sober or find a sober ride can prevent tragedies on North Dakota roads. Every driver and vehicle occupant can help meet the state’s goal of zero motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries by taking personal responsibility when traveling. This means wearing a seat belt at all times, transporting children in child passenger safety seats appropriate for the child’s age, height and weight, driving distraction free, driving sober and obeying all posted speed limits.

High-visibility enforcement for traffic safety is one element of a collaborative effort to eliminate vehicle deaths in North Dakota.
