ONALASKA, WIS. (vcsuvikings.com) – Jocelyn Braunberger and Rory Gentzkow earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors Tuesday as the VCSU golf team wrapped up its season at the NSAA Championships.
Braunberger placed 10th in the women’s standings, and Gentzkow finished 14th on the men’s side to lead the Vikings at the 36-hole conference tournament. Both rounds were played at Cedar Creek Golf Course in Onalaska, Wis.
Both Viking teams finished fifth out of six teams at the meet. Valley City State’s men improved their day two score by 27 shots as they finished with a 681 total (354-327). Bellevue University won the men’s tournament with a 594, beating second-place Waldorf by 29 shots.
VCSU’s women shaved 13 shots off their first round score as they totaled a 787 total (400-387). Bellevue University easily won the women’s title, scoring a 633 – which was 62 shots better than second-place Viterbo University.
The top seven individuals were awarded First Team All-Conference while golfers finishing 8th-14th received Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Braunberger was the top Viking finisher, shooting 87 on Monday and 90 on Tuesday to place 10th in the women’s standings. Hayley Shanks finished in 16th after shooting 92-94. Ashley McKittrick tied for 19th with rounds of 97-94 and Megan Haugrud (124-109) placed 23rd for the Viking women.
Genztkow entered Tuesday’s final round in 17th after shooting an 86 on Monday. He moved up to 14th in the final standings after carding a 78 on Tuesday. Taylor Finlayson tied for 17th with rounds of 86 and 83. Jayden Ewoniuk placed 19th after shooting 90 on Monday and 80 on Tuesday. Hunter Berg (94-86) and Darynt Carroll (92-88) tied for 24th.
Finlayson and Braunberger were named VCSU’s Champions of Character representatives.
