OAKES, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The offense was abundant at Cummings Field in Oakes, but LaMoure Legion Post #19 was on a different level of hitting as they defeated Oakes Legion Post #39 by a final score of 18-7.

Oakes got out to a quick 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second, but LaMoure proceeded to get ten unanswered runs to make it 11-3 going into the bottom of the sixth. Oakes wasn’t willing to give up, however, as their offense came back alive with an RBI-double from rightfielder David Schmitz, an RBI single from catcher Joey Heim and an RBI triple by third baseman Howie Neustel. With four runs posted in the bottom of the sixth, they only trailed 11-7. LaMoure wouldn’t be denied their perfect season as they racked up seven more runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away.

Leftfielder Steele Hansen went 2-4 with a run and was one of two Oakes hitters with a multi-hit day alongside David Schmitz who went 2-4 with an RBI and a run. Right-handed pitcher Brady McKenna got the start and went four-and-two-thirds innings with four strikeouts and just two walks but allowed ten hits and five earned runs. Oakes expended five total pitchers as LaMoure’s bats were just too much to handle.

Oakes falls to 3-1 and will play at Wishek on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
