Arlene (Elm) Simpson, 95, Valley City, ND passed away August 31, 2021 in her sleep at the Sheyenne Care Center.  The funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday, September 3 at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City with visitation one hour prior.  Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Valley City.

Arlene Eunice Elm was born November 14, 1925 to Otto and Clara Elm of Litchville, ND.  She attended rural school in Skandia Township and graduated high school from Hastings, ND.  She received her teaching certificate at Valley City State Teachers College and taught school at Skandia Township, Pillsbury and Black Loam Township.

Arlene married John Simpson of Verona, ND on June 7, 1947. They lived on the home farm before moving to Valley City in 1955. She began working for Auction City in 1959, retiring in 1987. Arlene and John spent many winters in Brownsville, TX.

Arlene was a member of Grace Free Lutheran Church since 1956 using the gifts God had given her to serve the Lord and his people. She enjoyed participating in church projects and activities. She was talented in sewing, gardening and painting. Many friends and family were gifted with her works of art.

Arlene’s special enjoyment was her family, friends and being a Senior Companion well into her 80s.

Survivors include her daughter Ila (Mark) Marvel; her son Arlee (Julie) Simpson; grandchildren Jason (Mary), Adam (Renee) and Cameron Marvel; Karen (Mike) Thorson and Jonathon (Lori) Simpson and sister-in-law Frances Elm.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Otto and Clara Elm; her brothers Clayton Elm and Warren Elm.

The funeral service for Arlene Simpson will be 11 am Friday, September 3, 2021 at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City.  Visitation will be 10 am Friday until the time of the service at the church.  She passed away at the Sheyenne Care Center on August 31 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
