MITCHELL, SD (NewsDakota.com) – Poor shooting in the first half put the University of Jamestown women’s basketball behind the eight ball as the Jimmies fell 64-49 to Dakota Wesleyan.

In the first quarter, Jamestown leaned heavily on junior Hannah DeMars on offense who scored all nine points for the Jimmies in the first 10 minutes as they trailed 13-9 after one. Dakota Wesleyan put together a good start to the second quarter, jumping in front by as many as 13 points before Jamestown knocked down a couple of big threes to cut the lead to 33-23 before the halftime break. UJ shot 27% from the field and 20% from three point range in the first 20 minutes, committing 10 turnovers.

Jamestown started the second half red hot, scoring the first nine points of the third quarter to force a Dakota Wesleyan timeout. After the 9-0 run and with Noelle Josephson on the bench in foul trouble, the Jimmies would take their first lead of the game midway through the third quarter, 40-39. UJ went into the final 10 minute period trailing the Tigers by two.

The Jimmies ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, allowing Dakota Wesleyan to start the quarter on a 7-0 run. As the quarter progressed, Jamestown could never close the game and the Jimmies saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. UJ shot 20% from long range in the loss.

DeMars led the Jimmies with 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on the night. DeMars was the only Jimmie to score in double figures on the evening. Kia Tower and Sarah Lenz both finished with nine points.

Jamestown falls to 16-9 overall on the season, 9-8 in the GPAC. UJ returns to Newman Arena on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm to take on Midland. Coverage can be heard on Jamestown 107.1/1400, newsdakota.com, and on the 107.1 app.
