JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Mayor Dwaine Heinrich has proclaimed the month of April as Fair Housing Month for the city of Jamestown.

According to his proclamation, April 11 marks the 54th anniversary of the passage of the U.S. Fair Housing Law, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 which enunciated a national policy of Fair Housing without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, or disabilities. This encourages fair housing opportunities for all citizens.

April is traditionally designated as Fair Housing Month by the President of the United States and by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The proclamation was signed and given to David Klein, Executive Director of the Great Plains Housing Authority. They work to provide safe, affordable housing opportunities to persons with low and moderate income and promote economic self-sufficiency of families.
