JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Blue Jays softball team took on the Bismarck Legacy Sabres in the 3rd place game on Saturday at Trapper Field in Jamestown. The Sabres would score first and never trail as they would take the game and 3rd place in the Class A State softball tournament with the 5-1 win over the Blue Jays.

In the top of the 1st inning Bismarck Legacy would have a pair of runners on base when their #3 hitter would step to the plate. Tori Olson who would be the pitcher on the day would bring in a run with an RBI single giving the Sabres the 1-0 lead. Bismarck Legacy would add to their lead in the top of the 2nd inning, this time Kalyssa Erickson would drive in a pair with a double giving the Sabres the 3-0 lead. Jamestown would get their only run of the game in the bottom of the 2nd inning. The Blue Jays clean up hitter would blast a lead off solo home run to straight away center field and the deficit to 3-1 Bismarck Legacy. In fact that would be the only Blue Jay extra base hit on the day. Jumping ahead to the top of the 5th inning, the Sabres would add on to their lead. Emma Owens would bring in Tori Olson with an RBI double to push the lead to 4-1. The Sabres would make it 5-1 thanks to an RBI single from Elise Stewart.

The bottom of the 7th inning was the last chance for the Blue Jays. Jamestown would get 3 consecutive singles to lead off the inning from, Torrie Mack, Katie Trumbauer, and Jada Walter. It was the perfect opportunity for the Jays to have the tying run come to the plate three times in the home half of the inning with the hopes to keep the game going for the club, the top of the order came to the plate. Alyssa Gange would fly out to right field for the first out. The Blue Jays #2 hitter Rylee Joseph would pop out to the Sabres shortstop for out number two. Then the #3 hitter in the line up, Jenna Fischer would strike out swinging to end the ball game and see Bismarck hold on for the 5-1 victory and claim 3rd place in the state. Blue Jays with the loss earn 4th place.

On the mound for the Sabres, Tori Olson went the complete 7 innings only allowing the 1 run on the solo home run, and only 6 hits in total, one of them (the home run) was an extra base hit.
