FARGO, N.D. (PPR) – Tammy Kromanacker the owner and director of North Dakota’s lone abortion service provider, the Red River Women’s Clinic says she knew the writing was on the wall, that the U.S. Supreme Court would overturn Roe v. Wade.

Kromanacker says the clinic phone has been ringing a lot since the decision was announced on Friday, June 24th. She says the service is needed and they will do what they can to mobilize action to protect those services, even if it means leaving North Dakota.

The 2007 Legislature passed a law that makes it a Class C felony to perform an abortion in North Dakota except to save the life of the mother or in the case of rape or incest. The law, North Dakota Century Code 12.1-31-12, will take effect on the 30th day after the North Dakota Attorney General certifies to Legislative Council that the U.S. Supreme Court has restored to the states the authority to prohibit abortion.
