‘Scan Day’ Planned in Carrington Sept. 29

CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As part of an effort with the North Dakota State Library, the Carrington City Library will be holding what they’re calling a “Scan Day” on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Library Director Michelle Seil says they’re continuing to digitize area newspapers, but this will be a way for members of the public to digitize some of their important documents and information.

Seil says the scanned pictures and memories will then become part of Digital Horizons, which is a collection of North Dakota histories, primarily county and town histories.

“ND church, school, township, and organization histories are also included,” the state library says on their website. “For most of these books, the print versions are available for checkout from the North Dakota State Library or through interlibrary loan.”

Seil says those scanned items will also be placed on a flash drive for you to take.

Those interested can bring 10 to 15 items per person. Community churches and organizations are also encouraged to submit items. These organizations can have upwards of 30 pictures or documents digitized.

Seil added they need to have individuals secure a time slot for the scans between 1 PM and 5 PM on that day. You can call (701) 652-3921 or contact Michelle Seil to sign up for a time during the event.

Seil also shared information on after school activities and items for sale during the city wide rummage sale. She also discussed ways to support the library either through family levels or the Friends of the Library.
