JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – An estimated 590 new cases of breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in North Dakota. 70 of those will result in death in 2022.
Central Valley Health District is encouraging all women to get their mammograms and other health related services. Unit Administrator Robin Iszler says some good news is cancer deaths and cases are on the decline.
Iszler says another reason these are declining is due to programs such as Women’s Way, which has been available to anyone in the area for the past 25 years.
The goal of the program is to reduce barriers to these important screenings. Iszler says if there are concerns of cost, Women’s Way is designed to assist those between the ages of 40 to 64 years old.
She added they also may be able to assist women between the ages of 21 and 39 who have health insurance and are eligible.
Another program Central Valley Health assists with is “No Excuses.” In a partnership with the Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC), the program is offered in October as part of National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Early Detection and Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The No Excuses program runs through a patient’s insurance and other programs to see if they qualify. Because of donations and events like RM Stoudt’s Running of the Pink, patients incur no cost for the service.
No Excuses returns Oct. 17-19 and appointments can be made by calling 701-952-4852 or visiting jrmcnd.com/no-excuses.
Iszler added in their 25 years, they’ve helped many women with getting their much needed screenings, but she says there are plenty of those who still need that care.
