VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) Hi-Liner wrestling starts it’s stretch run of the regular season with six duals over a six-night stretch.
Tonight, the Hi-Liners face Devils Lake to start a stretch that will bring Jamestown, Bismarck Legacy, Grand Forks Red River, West Fargo Sheyenne and West Fargo between Thursday night and Tuesday night.
All of the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) duals are must-haves for Valley City if the team is to make the state duals tournament. Valley City is 3-2 in league wrestling, a half-match out of the final qualification spot, as the league qualifies it’s teams for the state duals through regular season competition.
The Hi-Liners are chasing Sheyenne, who is unbeaten at 6-0, and West Fargo, who is 4-2 on the season. Valley City has lost to Fargo Davies and Grand Forks Central this season, while West Fargo has lost to Sheyenne and Davies.
It is likely Valley City could qualify with wins over Devils Lake, Red River and West Fargo Tuesday if Central were to defeat the Packers tonight. Should West Fargo beat Central tonight, the path is less clear. Central also has Sheyenne on their schedule to finish. Valley City would have to upset Sheyenne, or force a three-way tie and win tiebreakers.
